Each Friday I’m going to share a short post (Friday Faves) with things that I’m loving that week. Starting this week with: “what I’m packing for a long spring weekend in New England.”
We are headed to Boston for Andrew’s commencement ceremony from Emerson College. (BFA, Summa Cum Laude - yep, he’s going to be mortified that I’m sharing that, but I’m super proud and feel entitled to the occasional mom brag and if graduating with the highest honors isn’t the time, I’m not sure what is). We are staying in Boston for the weekend and then headed to Nantucket for a few days because to be so close and not go this time of year is criminal. I’m happy to share where we are staying in the city and on the island when we return. I bringing along a few new things that I love and wanted to share them for my first edition of Friday Faves!
I have been on a mission, in the name of soft skin, since Beauty Counter closed shop and I lost access to my favorite sugar scrub. Everything I’ve tried thus far has really missed the mark, until I discovered the Scrubee! I was at Lush buying bath bombs for Charlie’s Easter basket when I started chatting with a sales associated about my exfoliating woes and she suggested the Scrubee. Made with honey and crushed almonds. I don't know what sort of magic is in these bars but my skin has never felt this soft. I don’t even need lotion after the shower. The only downside is I want to use it daily and it lasts about 5-6 showers. I went back this week and bought 5 more. Lush, who knew?!!
The perfect coastal cardigan - This was not an impulse buy for me. I slept on it, then slept on it again, then asked my girlfriends to justify the purchase because it’s pricey and how often will I wear it? Why are clothes getting so expensive? It’s starting to feel out of hand. So, this is a splurge for me, but embroidered whales, sailboats and a lighthouse?! Come on, it had my name all over it!
I thought the cardigan would look super cute with this skirt - which I have been wearing on repeat since spring break. Such a good length and pretty fit. Looks more expensive than it is. Thank goodness because I can’t splurge on the sweater AND the skirt (I have a size small). I thought the cardigan would also look great with this gingham dress (which was an impulse buy. (moth - ME, flame - ANYTHING gingham). Strapless can be tricky, but this one feels like it will stay up easily and it’s not so tight it pinches in unflattering places. We have another trip in early June and I thought this dress would also be the perfect cover up for a boat day. (I bought in a size small)
I wanted a special dress to wear to Andrew’s graduation. Ann Mashburn gifted me this gorgeous green dupioni silk dress and I feel so pretty (and comfortable) in it. Would be gorgeous for a dinner party, luncheon, even holiday events because of the color, so I imagine it’s one I will keep and wear for many years to come. I got it in a small because sometimes their clothes run a bit small on me, but it’s generous and I could have easily had an extra small, so it’s true to size. The belt helps to cinch it in.
A comfy pair of woven flats! This look is everywhere right now! I have tried a few styles and this pair is by far the most comfortable (and cute). They felt good right out of the box which is a must for me. I’m too old at this point for shoes you have to break in - the worst. Life is too short. Highly recommend if you are on the hunt!
As I’ve mentioned a few times recently, I’ve been having a bit of a red resurgence, both with my home textiles (just small bits here and there) and in my closet. This dress is a no brainer, super comfy, effortless, easy to layer, perfect for travel and running errands. It looks super cute paired with my RL American flag sweater, which I will also be packing.
Love these Substack posts - and appreciate the time you take to do them. Just in case you’re still on the fence about Substack, sharing a little feedback 😉
Thank you for these posts, I love reading them! I also like seeing what people purchase for their outfits and their reasoning behind the purchase. This is an area where I always feel blocked! Congratulations to your son, these are the days!
